Steffy comes home from London, while Nick and Katie set out to sea.
At Nick's house, Donna lays out her woes about the Marcus situation to Katie. She tells Katie about her plan to get Marcus a job at Forrester. Katie thinks the plan is risky and doesn't understand why Donna's wasting time with it, instead of just telling Eric the truth about having a son. Donna tells Katie she wants her to get to know Marcus, too, and Katie gets morose. Just as she's about to tell Donna about her heart, Brooke walks in. "Katie? Have you told her?" Brooke asks, then does it for her. "Katie's body is rejecting her heart," Brooke says slowly. Donna stares disbelievingly into Katie's sad eyes. "But Katie still has time and we're going to make that time wonderful," Brooke says. Donna's in tears and once again Katie reminds them that she doesn't want anyone feeling sorry for her. "I'm feeling sorry for me," Donna insists, crying. "I need you. I love you." Brooke breaks up the conversation and pulls a sniffling Katie out of the chair. She's got a surprise adventure waiting for her!
Taylor walks into Ridge's office to find a surprise. Steffy is sitting at Ridge's desk! Seems Ridge has summoned both Taylor and Steffy today, but neither of them knows why. Ridge walks in and Steffy flies into his arms. "Dad!" she squeals. First things first, Ridge tells them about Katie's heart troubles. Taylor and Steffy are both sympathetic, feeling sorry for how much tragedy the Logans have been through lately. Steffy wants to see Katie and says she'll stay in LA a little longer than she originally planned so she can see her. But Ridge says he wants her to stay in LA for good, which is why he's called them both to his office today. "Steffy, your family is here and we miss you terribly," Ridge says. Steffy suspects that something else is going on, but Ridge says he just needs her and wants her involved in the company. She insists that she's not a model and doesn't want to become one, but Ridge says he's thinking more along the lines of management. As Steffy argues, Taylor jumps in and suggests that Steffy give it a try for a short while to see how she likes it. Steffy reluctantly agrees to give it a try. Ridge leaves and as soon as they're alone, Steffy tells Taylor that Phoebe has filled her in on... everything. Steffy's not going to be judgmental about Taylor's relationship with Rick, though. "If you made a connection with him, I say go for it!" she says. "Go ahead! Walk on the wild side!"
Nick is on the Shady Marlin, preparing for a special cruise with Katie, when Bridget shows up with a cooler full of Katie's favorite foods. "Promise me that she'll have a wonderful time today," Bridget says. Nick gives her his word: Katie will have a great time. Brooke brings Katie onto the boat, and Katie's thrilled to get a surprise cruise alone with Nick. Brooke and Bridget quickly leave and Katie and Nick set off. Nick teaches Katie how to steer the boat. As she steers, she questions Nick about his years out at sea and conversation between them is easy. Suddenly Katie sees Catalina Island in the distance. Although she was born and raised in LA, Katie says she's never been to Catalina and asks if they can go. A slow smile spreads across Nick's face as he leans over Katie. "Catalina, here we come!" he says, as he pushes the boat to full throttle and wraps his arms around Katie to help her steer.
After leaving Katie on the Marlin, Brooke and Bridget head back to Nick's house, where they worry that they're doing the right thing sending Katie out to sea. Will it be too much adventure? Bridget muses that Nick has a positive affect on Katie and she's happy he's doing this for her. Brooke says she knows it isn't easy for Bridget to send Nick off on a cruise with another woman, and Bridget wouldn't be doing this for anyone other than Katie. Brooke wraps Bridget in a hug and thanks her for being there for Katie. "I just want her to be as happy as she can. And I don't think anyone makes her happier than Nick," Bridget says.
Soon Nick and Katie reach the beach at Catalina Island and spread out a blanket for a picnic. Katie sighs that it's beautiful and hopes Nick will give
her an off-the-beaten-path tour. Conversation turns to fishing and diving for lobster. Katie asks if he's got his gear with him; she'd like to go
lobster-diving. When Nick balks, saying the water is too cold and she can't handle it, she gets frustrated. "I'm not an invalid," she says.
"I don't feel sick. ...What's the worst that could happen? I catch a cold and die?" Suddenly she breaks down in tears. Nick crawls across the
blanket and embraces her.
