I threw a shower for her 3 weeks ago. They gave me the guest list and it was 55 people. I dropped and easy $300 on that. All of my four kids are in the wedding....that is 3 tux's (total $420) 1 bridesmaid dress ($175) 3 nights at a hotel, four guys golfing for the bachelor party and we haven't even talked gifts yet. I love my niece dearly, but you would think the Queen on England is getting married. There are three full days of wedding events. We are paying all of the kids' expenses because they are struggling college students. Thanks for letting me vent. BTW......did I tell you guys that my daughter got an internship at the Mayo Clinic/hospital this summer. She is LOVING it! She is a very lucky young lady to have been selected for this opportunity.

Or should I say, he'll be paying you back. Just make sure he gives all your kids bridal showers, too. I know what you mean, I gave my little cousin a small baby shower/cookout and it cost quite a bit not even including her gift (or the wedding gift I had to buy a short time later for her - yeah she did it backwards - first the baby, then the wedding) Look at it this way Teach, your children will look beautiful in all those photos. Uh oh - another expense! Congrats to your daughter, that is fantastic! Good for her! I know you are so proud.

And to have all your kids involved like that, wow, that is a fortune! I hope you don't have many other siblings! I'm going to a wedding later this month in CA. My best friend's daughter is getting married. My friend has done most of the planning for it to keep the expenses down. She's doing most of the flower decorating. It will be a beautiful wedding, and I've known the bride since the day she was born. But I am using accumulated miles to fly there. I hope they don't bump me at the last minute. And I've had two orders of fabric mailed to me to make a dress with. The first one turned out to be too pale, so I had to order more brocade. I'm getting short on time, too, to make the dress. I still have to buy her a gift. I'm getting off lucky, though, and I know it. Try to remember, "It's only money" and then stick it to your bro when your kids get hitched, okay? I thought I spent a lot last year when my best friend got married. She doesn't have much family so since I was Maid of Honor i had to throw the shower the Bachelorette Party and Pay for dresses for both me and Abby since she was flower girl. By the time I was done i had spent over 1500. I am sure with all you've got vested in this wedding you will be way over that. Hope it all goes well for you and your family, and make sure he pays you back when your kids time come around. Also you must be so proud of your daughter. That is amazing to be interning at the Mayo clinic. What is she studying to be? Something that will make her a lot of money I hope. I hope your brother and family apprieciate the costs that you are going to for her wedding. hang in there, like everyone has said, you have 4 that will eventually get married and cost his family a small fortune. lol WOW! the Mayo clinic! I was just having sticker shock gathering all my money together for the week! Actually I am looking forward to a fun filled 3 days!!! Weddings have gotten a bit out of control in my opinion. I am encouraging my daughter to elope (JK) Bri, my daughter, will graduate next May with a BS in nursing. She will definitely continue on with school, though she is still not certain what she wants to do. She is going to take the MCAT's (to get into Med School) this fall and see how she does. She has also thought about nurse practitioner or physician's assistant. She seems to really like blood and guts and is enjoying her surgery experience at Mayo. The opportunities she has for learning there is absolutely incredible.

Posts: 124 (06/11/08 10:44) Pampered Guest Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	We are leaving tomorrow for Newport, RI, where hubby's niece is getting married in a black tie optional wedding at a mansion resort. We opted to stay at a local B&B but that is still expensive for 3 nights. There is also the drive to the airport, gas, parking, flights, car rental, plus all new clothes for the fancy event, gift, plus food, tips, and other incidentals. Oy! Luckily there were no showers or other dinners for us to attend. We skipped a 20th anniversary trip in April and threw in one extra day in Newport for just us. And, we just found out one of his other nieces is engaged. We're hoping she waits till next year and that she doesn't feel like she has to meet or top her sister's wedding! We'll start saving now just in case.

I think that the great family memories will outweigh the costs and everyone will have a wonderful time. Congratulations to the bride and groom! That is excellent news about Bri! I'm sure you're bursting with pride over her accomplishments as well you should be. Nursing is such a noble profession; the world needs folks like her. Bri sounds like an incredibly intelligent young woman and I'm sure that she could go into whichever aspect of nursing that she wants to without any trouble. Woohoo for her. I wish her well. I come from a large family and I do have to say it's nice when there are weddings because we all do showers together. They cost SO much anymore to give, I feel sorry for you going it alone.
