Just curious about your opinions regarding McCain's choice of running mate. I personally think the media is blowing way out of proportion the fact that
her daughter is pregnant. So what. I don't know how that would affect her ability to be VP. I'm sure he picked a woman to try to woo the Hilary voters
who aren't sold on Obama to his side of the fence. Not sure if it was a smart move. My husband, who I am embarrassed to say, would never vote for a woman,
said it was a stupid move. DH says that a woman is too emotional to run a country. Obviously he's not a big history buff and looks like a moron when he
makes comments like that. With McCain's age being up there, it's quite possible that if he gets into office, we could eventually have a female
president. She's very conservative.
So what do you all think? I think this is going to be one helluva presidential race. Let's hope the mud slinging doesn't get out of hand. That's
the worst part of an election.

I haven't read up on her yet, but will check her out. Unfortunately your husband has the same attitude as a lot of other people.......they would never vote
for a woman. It's sad, but true. My first thought was that McCain picked a woman to draw in the Hillary lovers, but I'm not so sure he went with the
right woman. She's no Hillary Clinton (and of course the next line would be "maybe that's a good thing"). I'm not sure I'd want her
as president if something happened to McCain, but I'm certain she would be backed by people who could help her.

I don't mind that her daughter is pregnant. So what. Most older teenage girls are fertile, and at least minimally active. I guess it means that whatever
sex-ed she had didn't work. Or maybe she wanted to get pregnant. Who knows? Apparently the daughter won out on not marrying the young father-to-be until
she was ready. I hope everything turns out okay for her.
The stuff that bothers me about her: She was a member of a separatist (successionist, as in "leave the Union") group in the 1990's, and even this year sent them video of encouragement. I have problems with her swearing an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States if she doesn't really mean it. She tried to fire the librarian of the public library over books she didn't want in the public library. If she doesn't believe in the First Amendment to the Constitution, she needs to explain herself. She tried to fire other employees of the city in an effort to re-interview them for re-hire provided they made clear that they would make an oath of loyalty to her. No. Can't do that. And she tried to get her brother-in-law fired. The judge asked her why she would want to kill the goose laying the golden eggs that feeds his kids. She is under investigation for abuse of power. She isn't clear enough on US history to know that the Founding Fathers didn't write the Pledge of Allegiance. This gal needs to go back to school. I prefer my leaders not be too ignorant. As a nurse, I'm disturned that she elected to fly from Texas back to AK after her amniotic fluid started leaking. There is usually a 24 hour window before fetal sepsis sets in. This was a known Downs Syndrome baby; they can have cardiac and other problems. She was in Dallas where she could and the baby could have received the best natal/postnatal care. I can't understand why she would take that chance with the baby she choose to keep. All of the old stories about her indicate she could be an abuser of power. She has even tried to claim "executive privilege" in keeping her office communications private. We've already been through that in the Bush-Cheney years. We need more transparency in govt, not less.

Excellent points, Erda; thanks for listing them for us.
It just seems to me that Palin was absolutely not McCain's first choice for VP. He's only met her twice from what I've read which seems very odd to me; I would think that he would want to choose someone with whom he is very familiar. It seems to me that his advisors shoved this idea down his throat and he went with it as an act of desperation; I think that his advisors thought that this would be sure-fire way to get the pissed off Hillary supports to go over to the dark side. What they don't seem to realize is that Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton are of the same gender but that's pretty much where the similarities end. If McCain is elected President and God forbid dies in office, Sarah Palin will become the President. I don't think she's qualified to run the country. I know that it can be said that Barak Obama doesn't have a lot of experience either but I've been listening to him speak for months and months now and I feel he has the itelligence to do the job. And if the unthinkable happened and he died while in office, Joe Biden would be President. Joe Biden has been around forever; I would feel more comfortable with him as my President than Sarah Palin. Regardless, I think it's going to be another close one in November. I do plan to listen to Sarah Palin's speech tonight. She won't sway me; my mind is made up but I just want to try to see what it is McCain sees in her.

The party chose Sarah in my opinion and they feel that she is the "token women" and one that they can control. That is the ONLY reason why she was
chosen. I think she's a horrible choice and I hope it bites McCain on the ass big time. I watched her speach this morning and I wasn't impressed with
her at all. She's arrogant and a smart ass. I disliked her immediately. Thanks Erda for filling me in more on her. I got a bad feeling about her listening
to her speak now I see my instincts are still good. I intend to read up more about her so I can at least be a little educated about the women I will not be
voting for.

I watched Sarah Palin's speech last night because I wanted to see just why John McCain thinks she's the one to be the VP. She sure did toe the
Republican party line, that's for sure. And she's ALL the way to the right, too - scary stuff.
I don't care if I have to crawl on my hands and knees to do it but I'm making darn sure that I vote for Obama/Biden in November. I just can't take another 4 years of Republican party rule.

I think Obama should win this one...at least I hope so. I think Palin was picked for a lot of thinly veiled reasons. One...a woman....two...she has a special
needs infant....three...her own daughter is pregnant....four..to create some excitement in a very dead camp.....five...they needs some "young"
blood....I could go on, but for many reasons, I think people are not stupid and will see through this.

I am wondering about the rumours that the child born in 2008 is actually her daughters and not hers. I saw some pictures where it looks like Bristol has a baby bunp (and I know baby bumps!) and Sarah looked pretty slim and trim. Also the story about her water breaking, giving a speech and then flying from Texas to Alaska to give birth is a real head scratcher...

Still, I haven't seen a picture yet where she is holding the baby like a baby, versus a prop or antique vase or something. I suppose her handlers are telling her not to be seen holding the baby too much because it would make her look less vice-presidential. Yikes. I guess I think it is weird because I held my babies close to my heart and head, and ALOT. I even carried them in a sling because it made them so much happier and gave them more exposure to people's faces. To each her own.

Oh, ChelseaK524, it is a total of five. Two boys and three girls. The oldest son is deploying to Iraq. His job there will be guarding some compounds where
commanders are working or living or something. I don't envy him. He's pretty young. They said he didn't have the grades to get into college.
Strange, that makes her two oldest not pursuing higher education, at least not at this time. The news said yesterday that Sarah Palin attended five universities/colleges over six years, one degree. Pretty unremarkable.

from the outside, looking in....IMO it appears that Palin's main purpose in this election is to distract the public from the fact that McCain is a Bush
clone, and supports every one of his policies, including the War. She's done a good job as the public seems to have completely forgotten everything they
hated about Bush.

don't know whether or not it was on his face or how bad it was. Maybe Erda knows.
I'm personally in no way impressed with Sarah Palin whatsoever. She simply doesn't represent the values that I stand for. Dar, I think you're right that the McCain people chose her specifically to show that McCain isn't a Bush clone, that he's got his finger on the pulse of what the people want and that includes women and moms. So far, they've bascially just trotted Sarah out and about, showing her off to everyone. We'll know what she's REALLY made of when she debates Joe Biden. Furthermore, this gal has a lot of controversy surrounding her that makes me uncomfortable. It galls me beyond words that this undeserving woman (IMO) might actually get to serve as Vice President and Hillary Clinton won't get to serve as President this time around. Hillary Clinton DESERVES to be the President - she is experienced and she's ready. I really can't believe this turn of events; it sickens me.
