When did you begin watching Y&R? |
Lead | |
|
Al from Pittsburg gave me a great idea! I started watching Y&R around 1981. I was channel-surfing and a scene caught my eye. I think her name was Tina
(Paul's sister) was holding a gun to her head and Jack (old Jack) who was married to her told her not to do it. He told her that if anyone was to be shot
it should be him for having the affair. She thought about it and then shot Jack in the chest! Shortly there after she left Y&R and she resurected for a
little while as a completely different character (Amber's mom, I think) in B&B. I have been hooked ever since!
When did you start watching the show? (Result)

I've been watching for as long as I can remember, off and on. I remember watching it with my grandmother....at the time, it was becuase I had to be quiet
while her "story" was on...I remember my little sister would get put down for a nap becuase she could not be quiet during her story. lol. then, when
I had gotten older, I remember rushing home after school to catch it with her. Grandma would make us some tea and some kind of snack, and we'd sit and
watch the show together. Cripes I miss that woman.
I don't really remember too much of the s/l back then.......
The first clear memory I have of the show is Victor having some guy locked up in his basement - I think he was having an affair with his then wife. I've hated the guy ever since. lol. I've missed a few years after Grandma passed away, but got back into it around the time Nina came to town, pregnant and alone. Rose took her in and in the end, stole her baby.....god I remember crying my eyes out over that. I remember being totally in love with Paul Williams! lol, I thought he was the just the hottest thing going! My favourite couple on the show was Danny and Cricket! I loved Philip too, but he had too much baggage, thanks to his mother. I stopped watching in my early 20's, college and getting married etc....but while on Mat leave with my son, I got back into it....for about 16 years now, I've been keeping up with the show. I don't always get to watch it, but I do read the re-caps every day.

Since day one.
I still remember Leslie Brooks pounding away on her piano for what seemed like forever. We were wondering if they were going to talk or just play music. |

Betty, I tried to edit your first poll choice since Y&R has only been on the air since March 26, 1973, which is when I first started watching - but it
wouldn't let me.
Anyway, my memories of the 70s and 80s are pretty hazy nowadays! The first storyline that I can remember pretty clearly is Tracey Abbott's weight issues one and how mean Lauren was to her. I think that was the early 80s.
Nikki & Victor Forever - you got that?

I've also been watching since Day 1. You can find opening scenes of Y&R at YouTube....just google Young and Restless opening scene. I have missed very
few days since it started. Back then in Indiana we had to change time for Daylight Savings and twice a year I would adjust my lunch hour so I could go home and
watch. Then came the wonderful years when Indiana didn't change time and that was just perfect. The state is back to changing time again, but it
doesn't matter now with VCRs and Tivo. I've watched a few other soaps over the years, but none ever compared to Y&R.

All this brings back memories. I remember Lauren being mean to Tracy! I also remember Nina, Rose (RIP), and Cricket. Where is she these days?

I don't remember the first time I watched but I do remember Leslie Brooks as a concert pianist (always playing). She was beautiful. Wasn't she the girl
that Jill Foster's brother was in love with? I know that when the show took the Brook family off y&r, the Abbott family came
I remember Nikki stripping on the stage, looking angelic and trampy at the same time. I remember Douglas, Victor's friend who "procured" Nikki for Victor. I remember one storyline where Victor was feared to have gone sterile, Nikki found out shortly before they were to be married and didnt want Victor to find out because she was afraid he wouldn't marry her. I always thought that was a courageous thing on her part. Victor found out right before the wedding and he was impressed with Nikki as well. I always felt bad for Victoria growing up because she clearly was a neglected little girl, shipped off to boarding school her entire life just like some unwanted pet. At least Nick had Jack who did a great job stepping in for Vic as Nick's dad. Well, that is my walk down memory lane. That was fun. Thanks Betty

I started watching during Leslie and Lauralee Brooks and Leslie found time in between her piano pounding to let Lance Prentiss pound her. She ended up getting
pregnant which broke Laurlalee's heart (Jaime Lyn Bauer). Jaime Lyn was the epitome of beauty back then. And Lance, Eric on B&B (ew), had this
scarred-face mother who wore a veil over her burnt disfigured face. She hated Lauralee as much as B&B's Stephanie hates Brooke and threw herself over a
balcony to commit suicide just to frame Lauralee for murder, that's how much she hated her!

It reminds me a post of you Peri, in the "Eric and that stupid smirk on his face!"
thread. I then went to see a youtube vido, in wich he and Jaime Lyn Bauer were both playing their Y&R characters!

I really don't remember how far back I started watching. I know when I started watching B&B but Y&R is hard. I remember when Cricket (Christine)
went to Vietnam and brought back Jack's son Kaeto. I remember crazy Trisha.

I started watching in fall 1973. I was a senior in high school and got an early release. I would come home from school and eat lunch while my mom watched
Y&R. With the exception of one year (when Heather Tom's Victoria had a stalker) I wave watched the show since then.

I started watching Y&R in the late 80's after I returned home from the military. My mom and sister watched, and I watched along with them (originally,
I was a DOOL and AW girl all the way!
I viewed the clip of the first scenes (I recognize the store owner as a former DOOL Actor!). Man, the show's focus is totally different than from when it started - no Brooks family, and only one Foster "holdover" in Jill.

Heidi, thank you, thank you for the link!! One of the best things about it is that it gives you an opening to check out other installments of the show during
the early days. I have had so much fun doing that!
BTW - In the opening scene - Who ARE those people? The guy in the truck, is that ole Eric from b&b?

Remember when Victoria was trying to get back at Victor and she posed nude? I still remember her sitting naked in this convertible with this look on her face
of, OMG what have I done. LOL Of course Victor had to go buy up the company real quick so he could stop the magazine from publishing those pics.

My son was 2 when I started watching, so that would have been around 1990. Ashley was married to Victor and they lived in the penthouse. Hmmmm. What else was
happening? That was when Brad used to strut around in his skivvies. OH, the whole baby swapping thing was going on with Sheila and Lauren.
The bank that I worked for had a TV in the lunch room. We got a PAID-FOR 45 minute lunch, so we'd go over and watch Y&R. That's how I got hooked. Prior to that, I was a GH fan since I was a pre-teen. Genie Francis was a teenager when I started watching.

Thanks for posting that link Guy!
Usually YouTube is blocked at my work, but for some reason it worked for me that time! McCook was such a young McDuckling then... but still as vapid. I also remember when David Hasselhof was Snapper Foster and married to Chris. I also liked when Jill was married to that Brooks guy who her mother was really in love with. And that Katherine, Derek and Suzanne triangle was so much fun back then too. I always wished they had brought back Paul's sister, Patti Williams and I really miss Mary Williams and her spare ribs & sauerkraut. |
